Stephanie’s dedication to patient safety and maternal health shines through in her remarkable ability to act decisively and compassionately. Stephanie visited a mother who seemed perfectly healthy. After providing lactation support, she performed routine vital checks and discovered the mother’s blood pressure was dangerously high, which is a sign of pre-eclampsia. She alerted the obstetrician, and the mother was hospitalized for three days to lower her blood pressure. Stephanie also empowered a young mother to overcome her fears about breastfeeding. She worked with a first-time mom with a preterm baby. Stephanie helped create a plan for breastfeeding and successfully helped the mother with latching, The new mother was moved to tears because for the first time, she felt confident and empowered.
