Background:

Family Connects International (FCI) is an independent 501c3 non-profit, providing training and technical support for the implementation of the evidence-based Family Connects Model, developed at Duke University. Family Connects (FC) is a community- based program supporting new parents in caring for their newborns, offering physical assessments of the postpartum person and infant, addressing questions about caring for a newborn, providing supportive guidance, and helping them access any community services or resources needed.

Occupational Summary:

The Finance & HR Specialist plays an important collaborative role to support the smooth operations of a busy, growing organization with programs in 21 states across the US. Their work ensures that a dedicated team of 27 staff have the infrastructure in place to enjoy an efficient, supportive workplace environment where everyone’s contributions are helping to advance a higher standard of care for families with new babies.

The Finance & HR Specialist role requires a high degree of confidentiality. A successful Finance & HR Specialist candidate is precise, detail-oriented, discreet, and careful. They love to catch errors, solve problems, and feel a strong sense of accomplishment from completing detailed tasks that enable team-mates to do their best work.

Key Deliverables:

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Human Resources duties: Payroll submission & exporting, applicant tracking & onboarding administrative duties, including assisting hiring managers with recruiting process, offboarding administrative duties, employee information updates, assist employees with questions regarding HR policies and procedures and PEO platform, track professional development fund usage and certifications.
  • Bookkeeping duties: Enter and schedule Accounts Payable bills and payments, send out Accounts Receivable invoices to community partners, assist with staff travel bookings, assist with payroll, reconcile bank transactions in QuickBooks, send overdue invoice reminders to community partners; complete twice-annual sales tax refund application to state of NC.
  • Vendor management: Ensure compliance with vendor contracts, receive and review invoices for accuracy and submit for payment, manage admin tasks for new vendor
  • Administrative: Manage annual calendar of compliance and risk management activities; Ensure that CIOO and team schedule all required activities and trainings appropriately, send notice of required training activities to staff and answer questions, review all assigned compliance activities and trainings for completion and complete organization documentation of completion; process incoming mail and prepare deposits.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in bookkeeping, finance, accounting, OR equivalent work experience;
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Outlook, Word, QuickBooks, com and/or other accounting and bookkeeping software;
  • At least three years’ work experience involving accounting, bookkeeping, administrative support, and/or human resources duties;
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality of financial and personnel information;
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles;
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
  • Clear, professional communication style;
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
  • Proactive self-starter willing to manage tasks to execution; and
  • Desire to work in a dynamic, growing, mission-driven environment where most people wear many hats.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications (Certified Bookkeeper, Certified Financial Assistant, and/or Associate Professional in Human Resources) are beneficial for this position, but not required;
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations and nonprofit finance concepts is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in FCI’s Durham office at least one day per week
  • Extended sitting (up to 8 hours per day).

  • Ability to perform duties in an active environment with changes in climate and noise level.
  • Ability to travel in air, train, and car.

Pay Band:

    • $46,000-$58,000 / year plus benefits, depending on education and experience.
